It's November 9, and on this date in 1906, President Teddy Roosevelt became the first sitting president to take a foreign trip when he traveled south to check out the construction of the Panama Canal. These days, presidential trips to foreign countries are commonplace and even a necessity in many instances, but back then the idea of a president visiting a foreign country while in office was something entirely new. All of us at the American School know that people today don't stay in one place for too long. You may take a vacation for a few days, or you may have to go out of town or even go overseas for an extended period of time. That's why our curriculum is perfect for every need. 0 Today’s Anniversary: The Museum of Modern Art
It's November 7, and on this date in 1929, the Museum of Modern Art opened in New York City. The MoMA contains more than 150,000 pieces of art by such artists as Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol and Andrew Wyeth, father of American School graduate Jamie Wyeth. The American School has a pair of art courses in its curriculum. Drawing Animals and Drawing Landscapes are half-unit courses that require students put forth time and effort in an attempt to perfect their artistic skills. Both courses provide a solid foundation in art and would be a good first step for students who wish to have their works in the MoMA someday!
