0 2012 Dart Award winners announced

The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma today announced the winners of the 2012 Dart Awards for Excellence in Coverage of Trauma. The annual Dart Awards recognize outstanding reporting in all media that portrays traumatic events with accuracy, insight and sensitivity while illuminating the effects of violence and tragedy on victims’ lives.

This year’s winners are The New York Times and WNYC Radio. Honorable mentions went to NPR, The Arizona Republic and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Pulitzer Prizes, in collaboration with Columbia Graduate School of Journalism's Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism, hosted a special Pulitzer Prize seminar on investigative journalism on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Video of the entire event is below.

Under the theme "Hiding in Plain Sight," four Pulitzer winners deconstructed their work and shared their down-to-earth techniques, guided by moderator Walt Bogdanich of the New York Times, a legendary investigative reporter and three-time Pulitzer winner.

The journalists who presented are:

Jeff Gottlieb and Ruben Vives, Los Angeles Times, Public Service Prize
Amy Ellis Nutt, The Star-Ledger, Newark, Feature Writing Prize
Paige St. John, The Herald-Tribune, Sarasota, Investigative Reporting Prize

Gottlieb ('80) and Nutt ('95) are graduates of the Journalism School.
