Several Columbia Journalism School alumni are key players at HuffPost Live, The Huffington Post’s streaming video network that launched this morning.
Ahmed Shihab-Eldin ’07 (@ASE), who is also an adjunct at the J-School, is one of 10 inaugural hosts of the network, and also a producer. He talked with Huffington Post White House correspondent Sam Stein ’07 as part of HuffPost Live’s first hour of programming today.
Allison Girvin ’05 is an executive producer at the network, and Milos Balac ’12 and Lily Jamali ’07 are producers. In addition, Kate Balch ’11, Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani ’12, Lara Naaman ’02, Céleste Owen-Jones ’12, Nitya Rajan ’12 and Brooke Sopelsa ’07 are reporters, editors and bloggers.
The aim of HuffPost Live is, according to the network, to “leverage The Huffington Post’s community and social platform to open the conversation to community members around the world, who will be able to join in live via webcam.” Users can submit comments and videos, and also browse upcoming video segments, to prepare for the conversations to come.
Shihab-Eldin teaches social media and aggregation skills at the J-School. He has advised M.S. students on their master’s projects, and also served as a consultant to News21, a collaboration of 12 journalism schools under the Carnegie-Knight Initiative on the Future of Journalism Education. His master's project, “Defining Middle Ground: The Next Generation of Muslim New Yorkers,” won a Webby Award.
