Dear FT Master of Science Students:The Columbia Journalism School Communications Department is offering a fellowship to an incoming M.S. student to be a web fellow to serve as a video diarist for the 2012-13 academic year. The diarist will produce a weekly short video (1-2 minutes) illustrating life as a J-School student, chronicling classes attended, assignments and reporting conducted, J-School events attended, challenges and successes encountered, professional opportunities pursued, plans for the coming week, etc.The fellow should aim to create videos that will guide prospective students who are curious about a "day in the life of a J-School student" and that will provide a thoughtful and honest perspective on what it's like to be at the J-School today, for all of the school's audiences (prospective students, alumni, the professional journalism community at large, visitors and guests, and more).Creativity and a sense of humor are encouraged, as long as the videos are tasteful, and the overall mission of the project -- providing a weekly snapshot of the life of J-School student -- is achieved.Videos should look clean but advanced production skills are not required. Videos will be delivered to the Web Editor in final, Web-ready format by a determined time and day every week, and Communications will review and post on the school's YouTube and Vimeo channels, on the J-School Web site, and on social media (J-School Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, LinkedIn and more). As such, the fellow has opportunity to make the video series a valuable component of his/her professional portfolio. The fellow will receive $7500 as a tuition grant. Delivery schedule will coincide with the J-School calendar (i.e., no video will be required during a vacation week), and every effort will be made to accommodate students' academic responsibilities throughout the year.Interested candidates should submit:1. A brief cover letter explaining why this fellowship interests you2. A sample of your video work (as a link, or as an attached file)4.
